The sourcing calendar

Toy manufacturing in Chenghai runs on a fixed rhythm: Chinese New Year, the Canton Fair, summer production, the Christmas rush, year-end clearance. Buy with the rhythm and you get better prices, better slots and fewer surprises. Buy against it and you pay for other people's planning.

What's happening

Chinese New Year shutdown

Factories close for 3–4 weeks around CNY (late January / February). Production before the holiday is rushed; right after it, workers return slowly and lead times stretch.

Your move
  • Finalize Q1–Q2 orders before the holiday, or expect delays into March.
  • Use the quiet weeks to plan your summer line — factories start showing new samples right after CNY.

New catalog season & Canton Fair

Factories release their new lines; the spring Canton Fair sets the year's trends. Every buyer is looking at the same new items — the good ones get exclusive-claimed fast.

Your move
  • Lock your summer orders now — water guns, beach, bubble, outdoor. Production slots for May–June shipping fill by April.
  • Best month to develop new items with factories: they're hungry and lines are open.

Summer goods ship; Q4 development begins

Summer production ships out. Under the surface, factories are already sampling Halloween and Christmas items — this is when festival pricing is most negotiable.

Your move
  • Start Q4 festival development: samples, quotes, packaging decisions.
  • Reorder evergreen lines (blocks, RC, pretend play) for autumn replenishment.
Jul – Aug
What's happening

Festival production peak

Christmas and Halloween lines run at full capacity. Freight rates start climbing toward peak season, and container space gets tight.

Your move
  • Confirm all festival orders by early August at the latest. Later = air freight or empty shelves.
  • Book freight space early; ask us to consolidate multi-factory orders into one shipment.

Last shipping window for Christmas

Sea-freight cutoff for pre-December delivery lands around mid-October for most destinations. Factories begin clearing leftover summer stock.

Your move
  • Last call for Q4 reorders — after mid-October, only air freight arrives in time.
  • Good moment for discounted summer leftovers if your market is counter-seasonal (South America, Middle East).

Clearance season & next year's samples

Factories dump overstock and canceled-order goods at deep discounts, and quietly prepare next year's samples. The calmest — and often cheapest — sourcing window of the year.

Your move
  • Hunt clearance deals for evergreen items; margins here are the best of the year.
  • Reserve production slots for January before the pre-CNY rush begins.
Evergreen

Building blocks, RC, pretend play and baby lines sell year-round. Typical production + domestic delivery cycle: 30–45 days. Plan reorders one full cycle ahead of your shelf date.
